When our client approached us, they didn't have a dedicated wellness room or a large area to work with. Instead, they had an underutilized closet and a vision of bringing the authentic Finnish sauna experience into their home. Rather than treating the limited footprint as a constraint, we approached it as a design challenge—one that demanded precision, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of traditional Finnish sauna principles. Today, it is one of the most rewarding transformations we've had the privilege to build.

Built on site from premium clear grain Pacific Northwest cedar, this custom sauna proves that an authentic sauna experience isn't defined by the size of the space, but by the quality of its design. Behind the cedar walls is a carefully engineered assembly of insulation, vapor management, ventilation, and air circulation. Bench heights were designed to position bathers where the heat naturally performs best, while airflow was balanced to create the gentle, enveloping warmth and exceptional löyly that define a true Finnish sauna. Every construction detail was considered - not to build a just another sauna room, but to create an environment that performs exactly as a traditional sauna should.

At the heart of the sauna is the Harvia Spirit heater, selected for its elegant design and outstanding performance. Its generous stone capacity produces the soft, enveloping steam that defines a traditional Finnish sauna, creating a deeply restorative bathing experience.

Thoughtfully integrated into the home, this once-overlooked closet has been transformed into a private sanctuary designed to be enjoyed for years to come.
